A lot of you have been asking what I’ve been doing to help boost my fertility, I see a naturopathic doctor, acupuncturist, and my Obgyn. I am on an array of supplements, herbs, seeds and foods to help my body function as well as possible. So far it seems we found the right mixture of everything because my cycles are back to 28 days and I am ovulating. I will share my supplements and herbs in another post. But for anyone just getting into prepping their body to conceive this is a great place to start.
So this recipe is adapted by the Super Smoothie my acupuncturist Toni from Healing Edge. The original smoothie is great for fertility, pregnancy, and postpartum. I’ll share the original smoothie at the end.
I double the recipe and Matt eats the same smoothie. I do add some things to mine, but these ingredients are good for both men and women. After the recipe I’ll share the benefits of each item
1 Cup water, we have a reverse osmosis system and love it.
1 Cup homemade organic cashew milk (its so creamy and tasty, let me know if you want this recipe)
1 cup frozen power greens, I purchase from Costco, Sprouts, or Whole Foods
2/3 cup frozen mixed organic berries, I like a mix with blueberries, raspberries and blackberries
2 TBSP Black strap molasses
1/2 TBSP royal jelly
2 TBSP Black cherry juice
2 Scoops Super Greens Powder we like Amazing Grass chocolate flavor
1 TBSP Maca powder- we use red extreme 25:1
1 TBSP Chia Seeds
2 TBSP Cod Liver Oil (Use flax oil if vegan)
1-3 Scoops Hemp seeds
1 TBSP Peanut Butter (ok to do another nut butter)
1 Sambazon unsweetened Acaí Packet
1 pinch of local bee pollen
2 scoops Vital Proteins Strawberry Collagen
I blend this and pour Matt’s into a mason jar with a plastic lid. You can make these at night as long as you store them in air tight container.
I then add to mine 1 scoop of Vital Proteins Unflavored collagen (I take 20g a day and since I do Intermittent Fasting I no longer add it to my coffee) then I add in 1 TBSP of seeds depending where I am in my cycle. During my follicle stage I use Pumpkin and Flax seeds. During Luteal I use Sesame and Sunflower seeds. I will go more in depth with seed cycling in another post
Below is the original recipe with explanations of why each ingredient is beneficial, along with the additional ingredients that I add. I don’t add bananas because I am not a fan of the texture. We don’t use the nutritional yeast because my husband can’t stand the taste. Since we eat meat we are not vitamin B12 deficient.
Maca: Helps balance hormones, improves fertility, helps with strength and endurance. Can help male libido
Power Greens: Increase fiber, help get in more greens into ones diet. More vitamins and Minerals
Peanut Butter: Good source of healthy fats
Collagen: Great for gut health, ligaments, joints, hair, skin and nails.
Acai Packet: Good source of antioxidants
Local Bee Pollen: Helps with my allergies by getting the pollen from local bees
Again I am not a fertility specialist. I listen to my doctors and do my own research. I have modified the smoothie my acupuncturist based off mine and my husbands individual needs. We love starting our mornings off with this because it gives us great nutrition, healthy fats, and some protein into our mornings.
Let me know if you try this recipe or have any questions.
